Third Winchester

A collection of scenes from fields outside of Winchester, Virginia that hosted significant action on September 19, 1864. Union forces under General Philip Sheridan defeated Jubal Early’s Confederates in one of the most important battles waged in the Shenandoah Valley. The results of Third Winchester helped to set the stage for the critical Battle of Cedar Creek, which was fought exactly one month later on October 19, 1864.
