Description

Dedicated in April 2023, the Ohio monument pays tribute to the Buckeye troops who were engaged in the battle on September 19, 1864. Of the notable individuals from Ohio involved here, the lists includes:

Major General Philip Sheridan (Army of the Shenandoah), Brevet Major General George Crook (Army of West Virginia), Brigadier General George Custer (1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division), Colonel Rutherford B. Hayes (1st Brigade, 2nd Division, Army of West Virginia - 19th President of the United States), Colonel Joseph Warren Kiefer (3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, 6th Corps - Speaker, U.S. House of Representatives, 1881-1883), Colonel Joseph Thoburn (1st Brigade, 1st Division, Army of West Virginia - Killed in action at Cedar Creek, October 19, 1864), Captain William McKinley (Staff Officer, Army of West Virginia - 25th President of the United States).
