"House of Peace"
Description
Shiloh Church ended up becoming the symbolic center of Sherman's line. Built in 1853 after a donation of a few acres to the Southern Methodists, the original log structure that was constructed was named "Shiloh" or "House of Peace." Today's modern structure was dedicated in 1952 and a reconstruction of the original log house sits on the site. During the fighting, wounded crawled into the building for shelter. The church would virtually be destroyed by the end of the battle and it was said that many locations of the cemetery's graves became unrecognizable.
