Familiar Farmsteads

Early morning light shines on two of Gettysburg's most famous barns, those on the Codori and Trostle Farms. During the height of the fighting on July 2, 1863, Union Major General Daniel E. Sickles' leg was severely severed next to the Trostle barn that still shows visible damage from a shell that crashed into its brick facing. In the background, the Codori Farm was at the center of the main Confederate assault on July 3, 1863 that is forever remembered in history as "Pickett's Charge."
