Tranquility's Crossing

The Lower Bridge (Burnside Bridge) just as the sun is rising. On September 17, 1862, Union General Ambrose Burnside's Ninth Corps troops finally took the bridge after a stubborn resistance from several hundred Georgians on the bluffs above.
