Meade Pyramid

Description

Sitting on the southern end of the December 1862 battlefield and along the historic line of Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad is the profound "Meade Pyramid" below Stonewall Jackson's lines on Prospect Hill. It was in this area that the future commander of the Army of the Potomac, General George G. Meade, led his division to achieve virtually the only breakthrough anywhere during the fighting. Like the others, these Union troops lost the initiative and were beaten back by the terrain and Southern reinforcements. In just six months from here, Meade was at the head of the victory at Gettysburg.
