Scenic Concealment

Description

From this overlook on the Murphy Farm, one can take in a remarkable view of the Shenandoah River and the Lower Shenandoah Valley beyond. During the September 1862 Battle of Harpers Ferry, it was below these heights that Confederate General A. P. Hill's Southerners dragged their cannon along the line of the Winchester & Potomac Railroad. By doing so and under the cover of darkness, they were getting them into a flanking position to deliver fire on the Federal troops who were holding on Bolivar Heights.
