Determined Dialogue

Located within the cemetery is a monument which marks the site of General Grant's headquarters on the night of April 6, 1862. Here, under a large tree, General Sherman found his friend. Rain was dripping off Grant's slouch hat as he puffed a cigar. Wanting to pull from the field, Sherman then decided against giving that kind of advice.

Sherman: "Well, Grant, we've had the devil's own day, haven't we?"

Grant: "Yes. Lick 'em tomorrow, though."
