Stonewall Sunset

Description

Erected in 1940 by the State of Virginia, the monument to Thomas Jonathan Jackson stands on Henry Hill. His brigade of Virginians emerged from the woods and stood ready. To stem and turn the tide, they charged across the field here and engaged in hand to hand fighting. After capturing some Union guns, this decisive action helped with securing a surprising Southern victory and the connection of the symbolic nickname of "Stonewall” with Jackson.
